Halloween in New Orleans
New Orleans is known for its rich voodoo history, vibrant costume parties, and of course, lots of “boos”! There’s no place better to spend Halloween than in the city that celebrates all things freakish and fun year round. Whether you’re looking to treat the family or spend some time among the dead, NOLA has something for everyone on Halloween!
Take a Tour- if you dare
New Orleans is one of the most haunted cities in America. And even better, there are so many ways to have paranormal experiences throughout the city. From haunted churches, vampire tales, and notorious spirits like William Faulker and Andrew Jackson, there are dozens of ghost and voodoo tours available to choose from. Experience the famous above ground cemeteries throughout the city on a haunted cemetery tour. Haunted house productions go on throughout the spooky seasons and are held throughout the city such as The Mortuary and New Orleans Nightmare. If something less haunted is more your style, take a swamp tour and experience the eerie swamp scenes of cypress trees draped in Spanish moss and alligator eyes peeking atop green waters. Sprinkle in some thrilling screams with a zipline tour of the swamp at ZipNola.
Parties and Boos
In New Orleans, if there’s a holiday, there’s a parade, and Krewe of BOO! is the grandest parade next to Mardi Gras! Krewe of BOO! is the weekend before Halloween and features events all weekend long such as the New Orleans Zombie Run, and the parade is family friendly. Boos it up at the biggest street party in the city on Frenchmen Street in the Faubourg Marigny on Halloween night. Party all weekend long with the LGBTQ community at Halloween New Orleans, featuring parties throughout the French Quarter that benefit Project Lazarus, a home in New Orleans for people living with AIDS. Release your inner child and experience Brews and Boos where the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park opens for adults only with unlimited rides, beer, treats, and a costume contest!
Tricks and Treats for the Family
There’s plenty to do with the kids too! Put on your costumes and visit Boo at the Zoo for trick-or-treating and fun events throughout the Audubon Zoo. Head to City Park for Ghosts in the Oaks, featuring trick-or-treating, arts & crafts, pumpkin patch and hot-dog roasting around the campfire. The whole family will love Boo Carré in the French Market District with trick-or-treating, live music, fun events, and an unforgettable Spooky Second Line!
Whether you’re partying your face off or painting your face on, Halloween in New Orleans is a must!
